4-star St James hotel with a world-famous martini bar

Location

Dukes London sits on a discreet dead-end street in St James, a five-minute walk from Green Park and Buckingham Palace. The hotel offers a custom picnic service in two of London's Royal Parks, ideal for guests who want a private outdoor meal. Jermyn Street shops, Regent Street, and nearby theatres are all within easy walking distance.

Dining & Bar

The DUKES Bar is known for its signature martini experience, where white-tuxedoed mixologists prepare cocktails tableside from a trolley. The Great British Restaurant, headed by chef Nigel Mendham, serves a classic British menu using local ingredients. The Drawing Room offers a four-course afternoon tea in an intimate setting, with vegan options also available.

Rooms & Suites

Rooms come with 400 thread count linens and marble bathrooms featuring Noble Isle toiletries and heated towel rails. The hotel offers connected suites for groups and families, and each room includes a fridge stocked with water, milk, and cookies. One Bedroom Suites provide additional space for up to three guests.

Services

The hotel provides a 24-hour front desk with concierge service and express check-in/check-out. Guests can use a fitness centre with modern equipment and request babysitting or child services. Dry cleaning, laundry, and luggage storage are available, and the cigar garden offers a selection of fine cigars and cognacs.

“Dukes London, with its blend of historic charm and modern luxury, impresses as a discreetly opulent experience. The signature martini at DUKES Bar is deservedly famous, as is the hotel's proximity to Buckingham Palace, placing guests in the heart of St James's. I find the option of a bespoke picnic in the Royal Parks a particularly appealing touch.”

Acceptable stay but some issues noted

street noise inconsistent thermostat
The location was convenient, close to many attractions.
My room faced a busy street, and the noise was quite disruptive. I also found the thermostat to be unreliable. It was hard to maintain a consistent temperature in the room. The breakfast omelette lacked flavor and had a rubbery texture.
